Assignment .2
From MariachiWiki
Oh Scope!
Hopefully you have become a little familiar with the electronics today. This stuff can be really intimidating for the uninitiated. Don't worry we'll help out as you go.
You spent some time looking at singles and doubles today. Singles are the counting rates of a one scintillator as a cosmic ray passes through it. Doubles, or two-fold conicidences, are the rates given by cosmic rays passing through two scintillators.
Question: Can you think why the counts/min for the singles should be more than the counts/min of the doubles?
Assignment (Part A) Plots
Those of you who have data should post your data here so that everyone can make their plots. Then each of you should plot this data using Excel or OpenOffice (free download if you don't have MS Office on your computer) and upload your plot to your personal page. Each of you should have three plots. One for each scintillator (2) and one for the two scintillators together (1). When you upload your plot be sure to save it first as a .jpg or .pdf.
Assignment (Part B) Journal Entry
As you did last time, comment on today's activities at the NSL.
- What are you learning (or not getting).
- Things you would like to learn.
- Items that are giving you trouble.
