Radar/Ionization Chamber
From MariachiWiki
Mariachi's new ideas for detecting cosmic rays extend to many different techniques in finding radiation which causes ionization within the atmosphere. One of the most promonent ideas is that of using the particle showers which are created by the high energy particles to refract radio transmissions sent by tv and radio stations and then detect these anamolies on antennas that exist in various labs on Long Island. However, such occurences can be rare and hard to destinguish the frequencies from those of other signals that have not been refracted from meteors or lightening.
Thought/Innovation?
Then again if a chamber could be constructed inside of a controlled space with gas that can be easily ionized in order to reflect or disrupt specific and controlled frequencies it might be possible to identify pure cosmic radiation from other sources. With the high penetrating capabilities of such particle showers, experiments with parameters that need a clear radio signal can be replicated underground or in protected areas where less interference from other sources besides the necessary ionizing radiation. You could even create an interior atmosphere of higher density to produce more of an ionized cloud possibly thus allowing for a maybe more of cosmic interference. To conduct such experiments one would need to build a chamber with a constant stream of easily refracted radio waves. From there you would also need a reciever not affected by other radiation and have these to resonate at a constant frequency. Now should a shower occur with great enough force an ionized cloud should appear resulting in a disturbance in the signal. If you wanted to beef up the array one could even put other recievers that would not be recieving such radio transmissions and see if the refraction of the radio waves by cosmic rays caused a signal to be produced.
Why It Has Not Been Created Already
Such apparatuses need mass diflection of radio waves in order to form even the slightest disturbance in signal and particles the cosmic particls that usually enter an array do not produce enough of an ionized to cause such an occasion. As one could see in cloud chambers they usually only result in tiny lines of ionized gas. Though you might be able to created a mini cosmic shower with enough molecules of gas located within the radar chamber. Another problem is that radar waves might bounce within the chamber itself resulting in a signal no mater how big the cloud. Still if done on a large scale it might be possible to see just how radar can be affect or even redirected in a certain situation such as that of a cosmic ray shower.
