SWR High School Physics...................Back to ... Tom Tomaszewski

Shoreham-Wading River High School currently offers two different physics courses - AP Physics B and Regents Physics.

Typically, students that have successfully completed Regents level chemistry in their junior year will continue with the Regents level physics course in their senior year. This course follows the curriculum outlined by New York State Department of Regents and culminates in the New York State Physics Regents in June.

Students that have successfully completed Honors or AP Chemistry have an option to choose either AP Physics or Regents Physics.

Students that performed well in their previous science and math courses can effectively enhance a strong science sequence by electing AP Physics B as a junior or senior. AP Physics is an algebra and trigonometry based college level physics course that culminates with the AP exam in May. The course is designed for students interested in Pre-medical, natural or biological sciences. Students enrolled in this course are self motivated, hard working students at the top of their class. These students are not only expected to complete the AP Physics B exam in May but also the New York State Physics Regents exam in June.

  • Physics 0414 1 Credit Prerequisite: Math3

This Regents level course emphasizes student activities and lab experiments to explore a wide range of topics: motion, forces, conservation, laws of energy and momentum, electricity, magnetism, atomic and nuclear physics. Students will utilize higher level thinking and problem solving skills. This is a lab-oriented course with a lab period every other day. Upon completion students will be required to take a comprehensive final exam and the Physics Regents exam.

  • Physics-Level B (Advanced Placement) 0450AP 1 Credit Course -- 1/2 Credit Lab

AP Physics, Level B (non-calculus), is a combined Regents Physics and AP Physics program intended for students with career interests in medicine, health occupations, law, science, or technology. Ten periods per week are required to perform demonstrations and laboratory experiments required by the New York State syllabus and to master advanced level topics and problems. Upon completion students will be prepared to take the AP Exam as well as the Physics Regents exam.
