Harry Stuckey retired in June 2007 after 33 years at Garden City High School. He taught AP Physics-C and first year physics at the Regents and Honors levels. He began with QuarkNet in 2001 and has been involved in MARIACHI since its inception. In addition to attending QuarkNet workshops in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, he spent four weeks in Helio Takai's lab at Brookhaven National Laboratory during the summer of 2005 and assisted Helio with the workshops in 2005, 2007, and 2008. Harry developed the Speed of Sound exercise in the High School Experiments section of this wiki.

Harry earned a bachlor's degree in math (with a minor in physics), a master's in math and a master's in earth science, all from Adelphi University. He was a Teacher Research Associate at BNL in 1989.

He attended a National Science Foundation workshop on meaurements using computer interface devices at Ithaca College in 1991. As a result, he was invited to serve on staff for the follow up NSF program at Ithaca College from 1992-1996, which involved training teachers to run one-week workshops on using computer interfaces in their home areas. He also attended workshops at FermiLab and Dartmouth College.

Since retirement, Harry has remained close to teaching through private tutoring and taking a more active role in the Long Island Physics Teachers Association. He would also like to do more with MARIACHI, which is part of the motivation for his enrolling in Hands-On Science with Cosmic Rays PHY315/CEB558. By working with the MARIACHI detectors, he expects to be able to develop activities that teachers can use with their students after installing a detector array in their schools. In spring 2008, Harry was invited to collaborate with Michael Marx and LIGASE on the Physics Teaching Lab to be situated in the NSL. The first project involved the electron e/m ratio. More information can be found at the Physics Teaching Lab. A draft of the first experiment is here.

Harry attended the 2008 MARIACHI Workshop held at Stony Brook University. Read his summary here

In the fall of 2008, Harry was invited to assist Michael Marx and Dima Vavilov with PHY315/CEB558. Reports on his activities can be found here.
