My name is Elizabeth Scisci and I’m a freshman biology major participating in a WISE introduction to research class at Stony Brook University. I’m a resident here, still in awe of the new perspectives college offers, and grinning and bearing through introductory chemistry and biology courses. I enjoy all areas of science, especially the biological and pharmaceutical fields, and after completing my undergraduate years at Stony Brook, I hope to attend dental school. A high school research science class, as well as a summer spent in a proteomics lab at St. John’s University, has brought research and experimentation to my attention as a very rewarding discipline.
Other than science, I love to read historical fiction, as well as play flute and sing. I’m a huge theater fan, both as a viewer and an actor, and an avid baseball enthusiast. Drawing and painting are favorite pastimes of mine, and being a Girl Scout throughout my pre-college years has inspired me to use my talents to their fullest potential in order to assist others. Hopefully, I will be able to combine my interests of art and bettering the community with a career in the dental field.
During the summertime, my favorite part of the year, if I’m not in a biochemistry lab or at a Yankee game, I’m on the beach. I hope to pursue journalism as a hobby here at Stony Brook, as my passion second to science is writing. I am currently a member of the Arts and Entertainment section of the Statesman here on campus.
