AutoBiography
Hello I'm Oscar Marcelino and people call me auskur. I go to school at Brentwood High School which is in Brentwood, NY. I am going into my senior year
and I am hoping to go to college in either Mass. or Cali. because I think those are cool places. My favorite color is orange
although I don't really like to wear orange. My favorite movies are the Shawshank Redemption and Princess Bride. My house is three
blocks away from a 7-11 which is really awesome because I like slurpees.

Dan and I soldered a coincidence board together.
July 13th 2006
The coincedence board that was made yesterday was looked over and a problem was found. A zener diode was placed in the reverse position and I had to correct the mistake.
After the mistake was corrected the threshold had to be calibrated for the coincedence board. The threshold had to be set to ignore any occerence in which the jump in voltage was 50mv or lower.
To check/calibrate the threshold:
1. Run a 5 volt current through the coincedence board.
2. Use a voltmeter and place each pronge of the voltmeter on the inside pronges of the AD8561 C chip(digikey AD8561AN-ND)which are connected to the board and measure the voltage going through that certain part of the board.
3. Find the variable resistor that corresponds with the repective AD8561 C chip and turn the screw(left to decrease, right to increase)until the voltage reads 50mv.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the remaining three AD8561 C chips.

Dan and I found all the parts and put together the box for the coincidence board. I gave minimal help to dan with the HOBO project and helped to make a pretzelscope.

Tested out first part of Candice'stutorial for analyzing cosmic ray data. Found discrepencies in some steps which were promptly corrected by Candice.

Thermos Bottle
Took data on how the distance of the two thermos bottles affects how many cosmic rays they detect. We connected the bottles to the " " which counted the number of events within a given time interval.
-The time set was for 10 minutes.
-The bottles were set at a intial position next to each other so that the centers the bottles were 10.7cm apart.
-They were moved 2cm farther away from each other each time 10 minutes passed.
-As a result of this experiment we found that as distance increases the amount of cosmic rays detected decreases.
-A more in-depth analysis will be done later on.

-Tested out more of Candice's tutorials. Tried out "Events per delta time per week" and "Cummulative events per delta time"
-Found mistakes in "events per delta time per week" in Steps 6,9, and 11 which were fixed.

"Events per hour" -Step 5 and 19 had mistakes which were fixed.

-Began to start experiement which would compare the results the scintillator paddles would get when put at certain angles and the results the thermos bottles would get when put at those same angles.
-The paddles/thermos needs 5volts to operate efficiently and the board used to count the events required 12volts.
- scintillator paddle#1 doesn't work after it hits the table when adjusting of angle was taking place.
-At first it was thouht that the bottom channel " " chip wasn't working. " " chip replaced and paddle #1 remained inactive. Scintillator paddle felt loose because the glue had not held. If glue the glue was the problem some activeity should of shown up when paddle was tested. It was thought that the lense in the PMT was broken. -When paddle#1 was unwrapped quartz lense was cracked as a result of the intial fall to the table in the beginning of the experiment, the glue must of jarred the lense when it hit the table.
