Richard Gearns is a Regents and AP Physics Teacher at Sachem High School East.

He became associated with the MARIACHI project through Quarknetin July 2005. In conjuction with Michael Marx he helped to develop theWISEworkshop, WISE 187 Cosmic Rays and Particle Detectors. An expanded version of the course is now offered at Stony Brook University by Drs. Marx and Vavilov as a full semester course for graduate (CEB 558) and undergraduate (PHY315) students.

As a member of the board of directors for the nonprofit Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, Richard works to preserve the last remaining laboratory building of Nikola Tesla by creating a science center with museum, archive, and research facilities.

Richard has recently embarked on an new collaborative initiative involving MARIACHI, BNL, and CERN. This initiative seeks to develop particle physics programs for US students and teachers at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Additionally, Richard continues to develop the website Teacher's Wiki for MARIACHI. This website dedicated to physics teachers uses GRID technology to provide a secure cyberspace for curriculum materials.

In his spare time, Richard enjoys beekeeping and competitive sailing on the north shore of Long Island.
